Congress Must Hold DOGE Accountable

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was a disaster. Trump and Elon Musk promised DOGE would save U.S. taxpayers trillions. Instead, it cost us all money, destroyed vital agencies, gutted regulation and exposed the personal data of nearly every American. Indeed, a former DOGE staffer is currently being investigated for allegedly stealing sensitive government data from more than 500 million living and dead Americans – with the intention of selling it to a private corporation.

The American people deserve answers and we need elected officials willing to fight to uncover the truth about DOGE.

"Not only has an ex-DOGE bro been accused of running around with the Social Security information of every American on a flash drive, he also may have the ability to edit and manipulate data at the Social Security Administration at will."

Rep. Robert Garcia (CA)

ELECTED OFFICIALS: TAKE THE PLEDGE

We're calling on all sitting Members of Congress and candidates for federal office to sign the pledge to use their power to push for public hearings and investigations into alleged illegal behavior carried out by DOGE leaders, officials, and staff. The American people deserve answers.

"There needs to be accountability for Elon Musk (…). They don't talk about the 4.5 million children around the world who he possibly sentenced to death by dismantling USAID. He needs to answer for that. He needs to be subpoenaed. He needs to face investigation. He needs to answer for what he did with DOGE."

- Rep. Ro Khanna (CA)

"Calls to investigate Elon Musk and DOGE are growing, pushing GOP candidates to help protect him from congressional accountability. Republican U.S. Senate candidate for Michigan, Mike Rogers, is fundraising by warning supporters that if Democrats gain control of the Senate they will subpoena Musk over his role as head of DOGE. "When you stand with my Senate campaign today, you are directly shielding Elon Musk,” Rogers wrote. He then asked for an “immediate, urgent contribution right now to protect Elon and save America.”"

- The Detroit Metro Times, July 22, 2026

Why Congress Must Investigate DOGE

DOGE personnel, many of whom were never subjected to a proper background check, shredded core functions of our government.

Tens of thousands of dedicated federal workers were fired. In total, over 300,000 federal employees left their roles last year.

DOGE officials and staff appear to have exposed the sensitive personal data of nearly every American in violation of the law.

"Trump's own Department of Justice admitted in court that 'DOGE' schemed with an outside political group to try and use Americans' confidential information from Social Security to overturn state election results. From stealing data to surrounding the polls with ICE agents, Trump and his MAGA allies will stop at nothing to interfere with our elections and undermine democracy."

- Rep. John B. Larson (CT)

SIGN THE CAMPAIGN PETITION

The American people deserve answers. Sign the petition to demand that your Member of Congress hold DOGE accountable for its actions — from data breaches to conflicts of interest to the destruction of vital government agencies.

“I strongly support efforts to investigate the full extent of DOGE's actions, including any coordination between DOGE and election deniers or other non-governmental organizations that have sowed chaos and distrust in our government's institutions.”

- Senator Cory Booker (NJ), July 28, 2026

How Congress Can Investigate &
Uncover the Truth About DOGE

1

Congressional Investigations into DOGE's Actions

Whistleblowers and journalists have produced evidence that DOGE leaders and personnel may have been involved in violations of the law, especially as it pertains to the handling of sensitive data. We need thorough Congressional investigations into DOGE's actions. There should be full accountability for any violations of the law.

2

Investigate Conflicts of Interest

Multiple DOGE officials also hold positions at major corporations, investment firms and other for-profit entities. We need transparent and thorough Congressional investigations into potential misuse of positions within government that benefited these individuals, including but not limited to awarding of contracts, interference in regulatory action, termination of regulators or potential regulators, or actions that materially benefited DOGE personnel's personal interests.

3

Review All Major Federal Contracts

Substantial federal contracts have been awarded to companies whose leadership or major investors served on DOGE leadership, serve(d) in the Trump administration, are members of the Trump family or have made significant financial contributions to Trump-controlled entities. We need a thorough Congressional review of all federal contracts worth $49,999,999 or more.

4

Investigate the Social Security Data Breach

The Trump administration has admitted that DOGE leaders and personnel mishandled the Social Security data of hundreds of millions of Americans, including both putting this data on a private cloud server and sharing Social Security data with external political allies. We need transparent and thorough Congressional investigations into this breach of the public trust.

5

Investigate NLRB Data Mishandling

Whistleblowers allege that DOGE staffers exfiltrated sensitive data from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), potentially including information related to unfair labor practice allegations and other labor law violations. We need transparent and thorough Congressional investigations into any mishandling of NLRB data.

6

Investigate AI Deployment and Contracts

DOGE rushed to embed AI programs into the federal government. We need Congressional investigations to demonstrate whether AI programs deployed in federal agencies create risks to the mission or security of the federal government, as well as investigations into the contracts awarded to AI firms for potential conflicts of interest.

“Elon Musk needs to testify under oath. DOGE gutted the federal workforce and fired experts we need to keep America safe. He must answer for the damage he caused.”

- Rep. James Walkinshaw (VA) - VA-11

DOGE: THE FACTS

According to a whistleblower complaint filed by the former Social Security Administration’s Chief Data Officer Charles Borges, DOGE staff stole the data of every American and uploaded it to a vulnerable cloud server. This puts the personal information of hundreds of millions of Americans at risk of being stolen, hacked, or leaked.

Boston University epidemiologist Brooke Nichols estimates that DOGE’s dismantling of USAID resulted in 781,343 deaths over the course of the year following the dismantling of USAID.

This figures includes the deaths of more than 500,000 children.

As head of the DOGE, Elon Musk had significant conflicts of interest, including over $15 billion in government contracts and control of businesses regulated by federal agencies, such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Under DOGE, ninety percent of CFPB staff were cut.

Mr. Musk and other DOGE personnel refuse to testify before Congress to answer questions under oath about their activities, some of which I believe are likely illegal. I continue to demand answers from the Trump Administration regarding Mr. Musk's activities. I believe his access to sensitive government systems violated Americans' privacy and put U.S. national security at risk.”

- Senator Jon Ossoff (GA) - July 30, 2026

What Members of Congress Are Saying:

“Elon’s power grab cannot go unchecked by Congress (...). I will continue pursuing all legislative avenues to rein in the power of unelected billionaires like Elon, who want to cripple our democracy for their personal gain.”

- Rep. LaMonica McIver (NJ) - NJ-10, July 30, 2026

“There needs to be more work done to uncover all of the work done by DOGE and reverse the cuts, including Congressional Committee investigations.”

- Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (CA) - CA-10, August 10, 2026

“I believe that it is our responsibility to protect our education, our public land, our personal data, our health, and much more. I will continue to do everything I can here in Congress to protect our communities from the harmful cuts that DOGE continues to push on the American people.”

- Rep. Melanie Stansbury (NM) - NM-1, July 27, 2026

"I am committed to using every lever at my disposal to block Trump and Musk's illegal takeovers and shutdowns of government agencies and firings of federal workers."

- Senator Adam B. Schiff (CA), July 22, 2026

"I will continue to sound the alarm on the unlawful actions by DOGE and President Trump. My colleagues and I swore an oath on our first day to support and defend the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic; the framers of the Constitution were clear with their intent that one day, there may be domestic enemies and that it was our obligation to defend the Constitution from them. It is at this very moment that I believe this to be true, and I will continue to use my position as your Senator to do just that.”

- Senator Angus King (ME), August 4, 2026

“Your data is not DOGE’s to take. Please know I will keep working until we know exactly who accessed this data, what they did with it and how we can prevent it in the future.”

- Rep. Val T. Hoyle (OR) - OR-4, Feb. 17, 2026

“I cosponsored the Taxpayer Data Protection Act to safeguard our information from reckless individuals. I have also cosponsored three resolutions to investigate DOGE's questionable security practices, unregulated use of artificial intelligence, and improper termination of federal workers.”

- Rep. Maxwell A. Frost (FL) - FL-10, July 27, 2026

"Elon Musk and his companies have received billions in government contracts, loans, and tax credits. Meanwhile he is working to gut the federal government. He has no business attacking Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare—programs that older adults, children, and people with disabilities need to live every day. I will continue to work to ensure that Mr. Musk is held accountable for his actions."

- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (NY)
